To sustain the spark of life, be it biological or mechanical, there needs to be breathing and the heartier the inhalations the better for all concerned. It’s a simple enough principal as it applies to engines, and every day a new story hits the net touting the benefits of using reusable air filters for your car, or truck, or motorhome, or whatever means used for commuting. But, what about the wholly neglected lawnmower, the go-to implement for regular weekend home upkeep, or an entire list of small industrial engines, like air-compressors, generators, or chain saws, that are left out of the reusable air filter conversation. If you question the validity of an air filter dialogue actually existing – Google it – the facts will enlighten and save you money.

Edgers, power washers, tillers and snow blowers are a few more of the various industrial and home tools requiring air filters. Air filter maintenance 101 educates us that it’s important to keep these tools in good working condition in order to insure they will last a long time, and one of the easiest things you can do to underwrite that, is run a clean air filter.

Air filters prevent dirt and bugs from entering the important aspects of a combustion engine, which would shorten the lifespan and reduce the overall efficiency of said engine. Small engines are even more vulnerable, as a little muck goes a long while to do big bad things. But here’s something to put in perspective, annually, somewhere around 100 million single-use vehicle air filters wind up in landfills. Now, add to that all the tiny little air filters from the aforementioned engines and you can begin to see the nasty mounting predicament.

With all the other pickles we already find ourselves in, requiring complex solutions, it should be heartening to hear that the escalating growth of air filter-mountains could be halted overnight by simply switching to reusable air filters. It’s one of those ‘duh’ eye-openers that can’t be repeated enough. Reusable air filters never need to be replaced and with a bit of effortless regular maintenance they’ll likely outlive all those little engines that can.

As though you should need even more impetus to switch to reusable, factor this in as well, by the time most disposable filters get replaced they have literally been choking the life out of that diminutive power plant. Every breath that engine takes passes through that disposable filter, and the thick, multiple-layer, paper material limits airflow, and that’s before it gets dirty.

You have forty-five minutes to cut the grass before the game comes on, if your lawnmower sputters a bit that’s okay, because who’s got time to hunt down a new filter. So each session that little combustible heart gets more clogged. Now if you had a reusable air filter you could take a few minutes to clean it, thereby guaranteeing a long and happy life for your engine and never miss a beat. Reusable air filters made from special synthetic materials or layers of cotton create less restriction so your engine doesn’t have to work as hard pulling in fresh air. That’s more power available for mowing grass, tilling the garden, or supplying power to remote locations. Reusable/washable air filters are made to hold up after multiple cycles of washing and they are clearly an infinitely more environmentally friendly choice.

Reusable air filters have been around for decades, and the foremost manufacturers of reusable air filters are leaps and bounds ahead of the field. The leaders in reusable air filter technology leave nothing to chance, they dyno-tune and race check their filter designs to extremes that would give small industrial engines and lawnmowers nightmares. Don’t use another disposable air filter when using a reusable one takes the same amount of effort and yields nothing but positive results. It makes no sense.
